20100512 - a "New Genetic Test Kit" at its 7.500 will be sold at Walgreens drug stores across the U.S. The kit was developed by "Pathway Genomics" of San Dieago. Three sorts of kits are offered - the most expensive is for prospective parents (to determine if either are carriers of "genetic conditions" such as thalassemia, diabetes, etc.) Genetic counseling will be provided, often at an additional cost.

Some experts believe the proposed marketing is illegal because implicit and unwarranted medical claims - the information may be improperly interpreted and prompt detrimental decisions. Others assert that this is the first foray of personalized genomic medicine.
