FDA to Increase Oversight of Medical Radiation

20100210  The New York Times reports - "The federal Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday that it would take steps to more stringently regulate three of the most potent forms of medical radiation, including increasingly popular CT scans, some of which delivered the radiation equivalent of 400 chest X-rays."  Comment : Ionizing radiation is a mutagen causing alterations in genes and chromosomes - a teratogen, causing malformations as may be the case in regions impacted by Chornobyl (recently reported and summarized in this website) - and a oncogen (some are advocating that informed consent should be required prior to medical use of radiation).
